Djinn-Inspired Character Design

This piece holds a lot of significance for me. It was one of my oldest works when making original characters, the original design which can be seen in the fifth image, and really my start into trying designs outside of my comfort zone. It was very nice to revisit such an old design and breathe new life into her and add more to what was already there.

With her new design, I was wanting to try the idea of fantasy mixing with machine. Similar to a lot of the mech-type creatures from "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild". I was toying around with various materials, the design even at one point having a porcelain type material on the prosthetic arms with cracks filled with gold. The idea being based on Japanese pottery being repaired with gold although I changed the idea and settled for a more stone-like set of arms, keeping the gold as the main material to compliment the blues of her skin, hair, and oufit.

In the end. I was very happy to work on this project and it was a refreshing experience to revisit old works from my earlier days as an artist online.

This is the fully finished version of the redo of an old Djinn inspired character from 2017!!

A close-up on the face: My personal favorite part of the piece as her hair came out really nicely.

The base layer of what was underneath the second set of arms as I drew both sets seperately to get a better idea if I wanted to keep the four arms or settle with the two.

In the end I chose the four arms. And added more spheres! This also served as a side-by-side to showcase the progress from 2017 into 2022

I rendered her face first to test how I wanted the skin and hair to look as well as see how the metallics would blend with the skin and fabric.
